Bullying

According to the Centers for Disease Control and the Department of Education the definition of bullying is the “unwanted aggressive behavior; observed or perceived power imbalance; and repetition of behaviors or high likelihood of repetition." Bullying can occur in person or via technology (online/social media or cell phones). Bullying is considered a public health problem. In 2015 a survey by the CDC revealed that 20% of students reported they were bullied on campus and 16% of high school students reported they were the victims of cyberbullying in the 12 months prior to the survey being taken. Teachers and school staff must be aware of the signs and ways to prevent/stop bullying. The following lessons will give teachers ways to get the conversation started and increase awareness within their school.
